Transformative government relations

Real estate developer wins support for iconic addition to downtown core

When a major real estate player was looking to build an iconic development that would transform the downtown core, they engaged FHR to help get the job done.  First, we helped secure a grant from the City of Toronto under the Imagination, Manufacturing, Innovation and Technology (IMIT) Program. Receiving this incentive was central to the company’s ability to attract commercial and corporate tenants.

Working closely with the developer, we launched an outreach program designed to showcase the significant contributions the company’s development project would make to the City, in terms of premium office and retail space, connections to the City’s financial core and the waterfront, and the addition of public green space.  The outreach emphasized the role the incentive would play in ensuring that the project would be truly transformative, rather than simply a scaled-back head office project.

The company’s grant application was approved unanimously by the City of Toronto, paving the way for the developer to attract a marquee anchor tenant.  As plans for the project proceeded, we organized a ground-breaking ceremony, securing the involvement of key political stakeholders from all three levels of government.

A comprehensive media relations campaign was executed to draw attention to the official launch of the project.  The campaign resulted in 20 million impressions across major print, television and radio outlets.

We continue to work with the developer, providing communications and government relations support on operational issues related to constructing this iconic addition to Toronto’s waterfront skyline.
