When a Canadian financial institution wanted to identify gaps and areas of improvement in their overall crisis plan, they engaged the FHR cyber team to take things a step further.
We led the development of the session that included a cross-functional table-top crisis simulation, concentrating on communications and the reputational aspects of the response. An anonymous questionnaire for session attendees gathered feedback on their individual understanding of cyber communications concerns or considerations during a cyber incident. Taking this survey into account, we worked with the client to develop a cyber breach scenario and communications-related prompts for the session that looked at audiences and channels, messaging, stakeholders and process.
Through the session and process, areas that needed to be strengthened and built out were identified. These areas included: stakeholder mapping, messaging, media protocol, internal communications protocols and overall response processes. The result was strengthened cyber crisis response capabilities that built in communications and reputation as key considerations.
